Co-Design & Engineering Services
Productized engineering for edge-emitter submounts beyond the standard catalog envelope — fixed-scope evaluations, DOE iterations, and long-term platform partnerships.
Not sure which tier? One-time evaluation of a specific idea → Starter Kit. Iterate and run DOE → Co-Design + DOE. Planning a platform or product family → Platform co-development.
Tier 1
Starter Kit Engineering Evaluation
One baseline 3D thermal + stress evaluation (one concept), lifetime/fatigue prediction, pass/fail vs your targets, and written recommendations.
$2,500
2–3 weeks from intake
What's included
- • Review of your target spec and die layout
- • Full 3D thermal + stress model (one baseline concept, simulation only — no prototype build)
- • Lifetime / fatigue prediction vs your cycling profile
- • Pass/fail report against CTE, Tj, and stress targets
- • Written recommendations and optional non-final part number
Sample report outline (~10–20 pages)
- Executive summary (1 page)
- Inputs and target specifications
- Thermal stack results (3D model plots)
- Stress / fatigue results
- Pass/fail vs each target (CTE, Tj, cycling)
- Recommended next steps (catalog SKU, custom submount, or DOE)

Tier 2
Co-Design + DOE
Multi-concept DOE, iteration loops, prototype support, and test-plan review, building on or beyond a Starter Kit evaluation. NRE/tooling quoted separately.
$250/hr engineering
$10,000 min · NRE/tooling extra
When to use: aggressive targets (100 W on 4 µm stripe, effective CTE ~8, TFLN or special alloys). Or when a Starter Kit shows FAIL but identifies promising directions.
Typical engagement scope
- • 2–4 design variants
- • 1 prototype batch
- • 1–2 test / iteration loops
| Work package | Duration | Outputs |
|---|---|---|
| Kickoff & scope | Week 1 | Signed SOW, baseline inputs |
| Baseline concept modeling | Week 1–2 | Thermal + stress report v1 |
| Variant exploration (DOE) | Week 2–4 | Design matrix, simulation drops |
| Prototype batch 1 | Week 4–6 | NRE quote, prototype units |
| Test plan & data review | Week 6–8 | Test summary, iteration plan |
| Final design freeze | Week 8+ | Drawings, part number, production quote |
Tier 3
Platform co-development
Platform co-development for module families — typically scoped after a Starter Kit or Co-Design DOE engagement.
Examples: co-developing a family of submounts for a new laser module platform, or a standard building block for multiple product lines.
